I am excited to announce that my ‘You are here‘ reduction linocut print has been selected as a Finalist in the Local Artist Local Content 2020 Art Prize.

The competition is run by the Friends of the Regional Gallery Caloundra Inc.. and hosted by the Caloundra Regional Gallery. Now in its 6th year, the Art Prize is open to residents of the Sunshine Coast Council, aiming to showcase local artists in the Sunshine Coast region.

As my art career develops, I’m enjoying getting to know some of the artists represented in the Finalist group. It really is an honour to be included in such a fabulous group of talented artists.

As with 2018, it is exciting to see a reduction linocut print recognised in an art prize that represents such a diverse range of media. There are 3 other printmaking prints in the show this year.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to all the Finalists!

Meet the Artists – Artist Talks

Hot of the heels of the success of the artist floor talks of the Kyoto Hanga International Print Exhibition: Japan and Australia, the Caloundra Gallery has scheduled a series of ‘Meet the Artist’ floor talks during the Local Artist Local Content Art Prize exhibition period. Each artist will discuss their exhibiting artwork and share insights about their practice and what inspires them. The events are FREE but bookings are preferred.

Artist Talk Update

10 February 2020 – It was such a wonderful morning Saturday 8 February at the Caloundra Regional Gallery. It was an honour to share my love of printmaking and talk about my work alongside Jandamarra Cadd, Jan Roebuck and Jonathan Jones. Artist talks are a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an intimate chat with the artists, to hear in their own words where the inspiration comes from and about their art’s practice. I managed my nerves and enjoyed sharing my passion with the audience, but I also enjoyed listening to the other artists talk about their work, their passion and their inspiration and motivation.

‘You are here’ Artist Statement

We were headed for a warm and wet Autumn. Rain followed me up the Bruce Highway from Brisbane, along Steve Irwin Way, then up the hill from Landsborough toward home. I couldn’t resist the urge to detour along Mountain View Road to see if the iconic Glass House Mountains were visible through the rain fog and cloud. They were. And they were beautiful in all their moody and picturesque profile.

I have lived on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for ten years now, and the abundant beauty of my surrounds is a constant source of inspiration for my work, and my sanity. Stepping in to a natural space affords me the opportunity to take a moment, stop and breathe. It calms me. It grounds me. It is these moments of calm and respite that I aim to share with my work.

I am a printmaker, enjoying the process-driven art form in all of its inky glory. Through the meditative processes of printmaking, combined with my subject matter, I am connected to the present moment. Time stands still, sometimes for hours at a time.

This print is a 13 layer reduction linocut printed in a limited edition of 11 prints. I wrote an article a little while ago that details the process and progress of this print, including photos of each layer.
