Are ready to take a more intentional approach to your gelatin plate monoprinting? In this one day workshop you will print with found and organic objects, learning how to think ahead with layers to create more planned and intentional images.
This workshop is a direct continuation from my Gelatin Plate Monoprinting workshop (in-person or online). There I teach and share the same approach I take with my own gel plate monoprinting with plant materials. Assumed knowledge of the monoprinting with gelatin plates is required to attend this workshop.
If you haven’t printed with gel plates before, or want to learn about the layered approach I work with, consider attending my Gel Plate Monoprinting workshop. If you can’t make the in-person workshop, I have taken the in-person lessons online.
Suitable for intermediate gel plate printers, all ages over 16.
Scroll down, or click here, to read what past students have said about this workshop.
This workshop will build on the basics of gelatin plate printing, specifically the layering of colour with plant materials and simple found objects as covered in my Gelatin Plate Monoprinting workshop.
From that starting point – we will take a more intentional approach to the process, intentionally selecting and printing colours, and work with the intentional placement of found objects.
We’ll discuss design principles, balance and contrast, composition – all with the view to help you take a more intentional approach to your gel plate monoprinting.
If you’re feeling adventurous – bring your own home made plate to the workshop and we will have some experimental fun with that plate too!
If you have not printed with gelatin plates before I highly recommend that you give it a go. You can attend an in-person workshop in The tudio in Maleny, or enrol into the 24/7 online access workshop.
All necessary materials for this workshop are covered in your Materials Fee.
– gelatin plate and paper for printing
– paints, stencils and objects to create your printed designs
– paints, rollers and other printmaking supplies needed to prepare and print your prints
– tea and coffee, with a light morning and afternoon tea
Everything you need for this workshop is included and provided.
If you’re feeling adventurous – bring your own home made plate to the workshop and we will have some experimental fun with that plate too!
Bring along any prints from your own collection that you want to replicate and/or want to work out how you created them!
Please bring your own lunch. You can pop into town to buy lunch, but it is a few minutes drive and parking can be difficult (Maleny is a popular weekend destination). Therefore I recommend you bring your lunch and maximise the time you have printing and learning in the studio.
Bring a journal or notebook for taking notes during the workshop.
Participants are advised to wear closed in shoes, and suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting paint on. The paints can set permanently on fabric.
In this workshop we will print with water based acrylic paints, so wash up will use soap and water.
To book your place in this workshop, please complete the booking form to the right.
Full payment is required to secure your booking. Payment can be made via PayPal or direct deposit.
If you cancel your workshop booking you may incur fees. Please read my cancellation policy here.
If a workshop does not reach the minimum numbers required, it may have to be cancelled. If this happens you will receive a full refund or an option to reschedule.
Once your booking form and payment has been received I will contact you to confirm you place and advise any special instructions.

As before, I like that besides my lunch I don't have to bring anything. Best of all is Kim's encouragement and warm generosity in sharing her skills and experience. Due to the small number of students in the group there is time over the course of the day for one-on-one moments where questions about individual pieces or techniques are answered. It's always inspiring to see other student's work, the colours and material selections and combinations used.

I always enjoy the lovely welcoming atmosphere. I loved the fact that everyone had different ideas and was very encouraging and positive. Your explanation at the beginning of the session was excellent and bang packed with information and ideas. You always give plenty of advice and encouragement and always leave me with the ‘can’t wait to come back and do some more’ feeling. Thanks Kim, another brilliant day.
-
I liked the Encouragement, Fellow students-positive feel, Generosity of information and Learnt heaps [in this workshop]. Well done Kim, Wonderful experience

Kim's generosity in sharing knowledge, her encouragement and beautiful spirit make her workshops a delightful experience that continues to inspire me long after the session. My creative journey becomes more personal and enriched each time I work with her. Kindness and blessings Roxanne

Always a wonderful day and I am looking forward to the next one. Loved the welcoming atmosphere and Kim's wonderful knowledge of her subject matter. She is so good at helping you to problem solve and improve your results while not telling you what to do. The resources are excellent and it is just a wonderful day of fun and learning. Also very partial to the orange and almond cake.... thanks Kim.

Another fabulous Kim workshop. Such a knowledgeable and giving tutor. A wonderfully satisfying day in every way.
-
Kim has a wonderful relaxed and empathetic teaching style. She is very helpful and encourages the students to try something new. I came away from the workshop not only with a great range of prints, but buzzing with ideas to try at home. ... the studio is light and bright and there is plenty of space for every student.
-
Kim’s Studio is a wonderful space to work in. I thoroughly enjoyed the day (which seemed to fly by) and the workshop. Kim was always on hand to offer advice if needed. My fellow workshop participants were a lovely group of ladies, so all in all, a fabulous day!

I love the Organic style Kim embraces, where every workshop, no matter how advanced the students might be from previous tutorials, there will always be a serendipitous occurrence/feel in the class, then the Magic/Wow factor happens. Knowledge of medium excellent, generous with tips, and how to improve the print whilst allowing the student their own autonomy and ideas to develop. A Creative, calm work space that Kim runs efficiently, is a place of taking the student outside their "comfort zone" stretching the old mindset, all for a better result. A studio, where WELCOME is a reality. Thank you.

I loved the warm welcome, the studio environment (and library), the morning/afternoon tea (Yum!), the great group of participants (all friendly and interesting), and the superb organisation... structured, inclusive and wonderfully supportive teaching with frequent reminders of critical concepts for any artist or indeed human being (nothing right or wrong, just an opportunity to learn; release the attachment to the outcome; stop overthinking and so on). The workshop built onto the introductory online gel plate printing workshop perfectly! The workshop was so well organised. I knew long before arriving that I was going to have a fabulous day... and it was... inspiring, rich in learning, totally supportive and encouraging, with wonderful co-participants. I left to drive home feeling enervated and very clear about what I wanted to accomplish next with gel printing.

I have been to several workshops of Kim Herringe now, and with each one I come away with so much knowledge. Kim has helped me enormously with my printing passion. Highly recommend any workshop that Kim has to offer.. You will end the day wanting more.
-
When I leave Kim’s workshops I can’t wait to practice everything new I have learned, and there is always some knew knowledge and technique to take home and experiment with. Kim is always willing to share and encourage.
-
Kim has an amazing talent and knowledge which she generously shares
-
Lots to learn beyond the basic workshop ... Definitely helped me a lot and will keep me printing more at home. Had a magnificent day.
-
Choosing to play and print with leaves and botanicals from the garden is fun and imaginative. Choosing colours to blend and print that bring added surprise is even better. A highly recommended class with Kim as an expert teacher.

Loved the workshop and especially liked being able to think with my brain and play according to my heart! New techniques to add to my artistic repertoire are always wonderful to have and can lead you in new areas of discovery.
