Are you free on Wednesday mornings and:

  • Wanting to work on a creative project and looking for some help to work through it?
  • Looking for some structured time to work on a printmaking project?
  • Wanting to develop specific printmaking skills?
  • Looking for inspiration for a new printmaking work?
  • Wanting to enjoy the company of other like-minded printmaking creatives?
  • Looking for a safe space to reconnect with your creative self?

If you answered “yes” to anything above, this may be the space for you.

Bring your own project, idea for new project, or thoughts around a specific goal and enjoy the space and facilities of The Studio. I can help work through your project and you enjoy the facilities and company of like-minded creative souls.

These classes are a different format to Private Tuition sessions and Workshops. There will be up to 6 people in any class. Each student will work on this own piece or project, and I will be available to guide, support, tutor and troubleshoot.

How it Works

The Studio is open for classes over 4 Terms throughout the year.
Classes run on Wednesday mornings from 9am until 1pm.
Each Term runs in sync with school holidays.

Each class is 4 hours. You are welcome to arrive later than 9am and leave earlier than 1pm. I do ask that if you are unable to make a class, please let me know via a call, text or email.

Come to class with your own project, idea for new project, or thoughts around a specific goal. I can help you work through your project, you enjoy the space and facilities of The Studio and some great company.

If you’re not sure what you want to do, or where to start, we’ll chat on email before you start your classes and/or on your first day to set some objectives and goals.

You will be sent an email before your first class with The Studio location details and materials lists so you can get things together before you come to class.

What can be done in these classes?

Printmaking processes I work with that translate to the class format are:

  • Linocut printing, and some other forms of relief printmaking
  • Metal plate etching, and some other forms of intaglio printing including paper embossing and collagraph
  • Cyanotype
  • Gel plate monoprinting, and some other monoprinting processes (including a letterpress monoprinting play)
  • Handmade bookmaking and artist books

Printmaking processes not covered in these classes

  • Eco-printing – hands-on is difficult in this class format, however, we can discuss process, tools and materials and review a range of examples and approaches so you can try the process at home. That said, there may be some parts of the process we can cover in class. We can discuss further.
  • Screenprinting
  • Lithography
  • Letterpress

You can work on other creative projects while in class, but please know that my tutoring knowledge is focused around printmaking.

Studio Facilities

Students will have access to printing presses, studio work areas and the studio library.

Your fee includes a nominal fee for sundry items used during class. You are welcome to use some studio materials to get started, and will be encouraged to purchase your own materials to continue your work.

What to Bring

Basic tools and materials are available to help get you started, and you will be encouraged to purchase your own as you invest more time into any one process.

You will be sent a suggested materials list before coming to your first class, and this indicates what resources are supplied at The Studio. If you’re not sure about what to bring, please check with Kim before arriving for your class.

Tea, coffee and a light morning tea is provided with each class. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink if preferred, including lunch if you like to eat before 1pm. The studio has a small kitchenette with fridge, cutlery and microwave oven.

Safety

Students will be working in a functioning professional studio.

Students are advised to wear closed in shoes, and suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting dirty (printmaking can be a messy business).

Where possible, The Studio works with non-toxic inks, chemicals and materials. However, printmaking uses a variety of different materials for different processes, including working with sharp and dangerous tools and substances with some degree of toxicity.

You will be given instruction and direction as required regarding tools and studio safety, and it will expected that you follow and adhere to these instructions.

Class Feedback

Below are words shared by people attending the Executive Ink weekly classes:

  • LOVE what this group stands for and I am eternally grateful for being able to be a part of something so wonderful! The BEST thing for me about the classes is the sharing the space with the gorgeous group of women who share this time with me. Friendships are being formed over the love of creativity and we are all so very different which makes it more special. Kim holds for each of us such a wonderful, safe and very supportive space where we can learn and fall and pick ourselves up and grow with no judgement.

  • Kim got me "hooked" on gel printing after I purchased Gel Plates with absolutely no clue what to do with them. She was so excited to share one of her printing passions with me, carefully walking me through the basics in a clear and logical manner. Her love of all things paper and print is contagious. Kim has a calm patience coupled with a voracious joy and creativity that is utterly enchanting and totally infectious. Her workshops are meticulously planned, organised and executed. You will leave with an appreciation of her skills as an artist and a new found outlet for your own creativity. I could not recommend a creative "educator" more highly than Kim Herringe

  • The warmth and kindness of Kim is reflected in everyone who attends her studio. Kim has created a beautiful space in which to explore print making techniques and individual artistic style. Wednesday’s have become my favourite day of the week! [What did you like about the classes?] Relaxed & friendly. Enjoy social aspect. Opportunity to see other people’s variety of work. Doing own work, at own pace, and receiving guidance as needed and/or when requested.
