Are you looking for some structured time to work on a printmaking project?
Are you wanting to develop specific printmaking skills?
Are you looking for inspiration for a new printmaking work?
Are you wanting to enjoy the company of other like-minded printmaking creatives?
Bring your own project, idea for new project, or thoughts around a specific goal. I will be on hand to help you through your project. And all the while you can enjoy the space and facilities of The Studio.
These classes are a different format to Private Tuition sessions and Workshops. There will be up to 6 people in any class. Each student will work on this own piece or project, and I will be available to help, tutor and troubleshoot.
The Studio is open for classes Wednesday mornings from 9am until 1pm.
Each class 4 hours.
Classes are available in pre-paid bundles of 6. You are able to use your 6 classes over an 8 week period, starting from the date of your first class attendance. This gives you wriggle room if you are not able to attend a class.
When you complete your 6 classes, you can purchase another bundle of 6 🙂
Come to class with your own project, idea for new project, or thoughts around a specific goal. I will help you through your project, and you enjoy the space and facilities of The Studio, and great company.
If you’re not sure what you want to do, or where to start, we’ll chat on email before you start your classes and/or on your first day to set some objectives and goals.
You will be sent an email before your first class with The studio location details and materials lists so you can get things together before you come to class.
Printmaking processes I work with that translate to the class format are:
- Linocut printing, and some other forms of relief printmaking
- Metal plate etching, and some other forms of intaglio printing
- Gel plate monoprinting, and some other monoprinting processes
- Artist books, focusing on folded structures, not stitching
Printmaking processes not covered in these classes
- Eco-printing – hands-on is difficult in this class format, however, we can discuss process, tools and materials and review a range of examples and approaches so you can try the process at home. That said, there may be some parts of the process we can cover in class. We can discuss further.
Students will have access to printing presses, studio work areas and the studio library.
Your fee includes a nominal fee for sundry items used during class.
Basic tools and materials are available to help get you started, and you will be encouraged to purchase your own as you invest more time into any one process. Please check with Kim before arriving for your class. These basic basic tools and materials include but are not limited to:
- Lino carving tools
- Gel monoprinting plates
- Inking glass
- Lino printing inks (water-based)
Materials are not included in the tutoring fee:
- You must supply your own materials.
- A materials list will be provided based on your desired objectives.
- Some materials can be purchase from The Studio – please check with Kim before arriving for your class.
Tea, coffee and a light morning tea is provided with each class. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink if preferred, including lunch if you like to eat before 1pm. The studio has a small kitchenette with fridge, cutlery and microwave oven.
Students will be working in a functioning professional studio.
Students are advised to wear closed in shoes, and suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting dirty (printmaking can be a messy business).
Where possible, The Studio works with non-toxic inks, chemicals and materials. However, printmaking uses a variety of different materials for different processes, including working with sharp and dangerous tools and substances with some degree of toxicity.
You will be given instruction and direction as required regarding tools and studio safety, and it will expected that you follow and adhere to these instructions.
