Field Notes … the exhibition

 In Exhibitions

Notes created by the researcher during the act of conducting a field study to remember and record the behaviours, activities, events and other features of an observation.

When working on the idea of this exhibition, we were motivated to share more than ‘just the final result’ of the work we create. More often than not, the preliminary workings and preparatory images and drawings and creative development are out of view.

So, for this show, all works on display are accompanied with some of the artists’ visual field notes and resources created and referenced when developing these artworks

The lineup is impressive – seven established professional Sunshine Coast Hinterland artists. All of us very different in our fine artwork styles:

The exhibition is on at The Zone Gallery in Maleny, 89 McCarthy Rd.

Key Exhibition Dates

You will find at least one of the exhibiting artists on hand every day of the exhibition.

  • DATES Friday 25 November – Sunday 11 December, 10am-3pm daily
  • OPENING EVENT – Friday 25 November, 6-8pm
  • ARTISTS’ PANEL ARTIST TALK – Saturday 10 December 4-6pm
  • WHERE The Zone Gallery, 89 McCarthy Rd, Maleny

Artists’ Panel Artist Talk

David Bongiorno, an award winning Sunshine Coast figurative artist, will facilitate our panel-style Artist Talk on Satruday afternoon.

David’s natural sense of curiosity will facilitate an in-depth discussion about the work on display and the artists’ related field notes. He will be asking the each of us questions about our work and practice, and inviting questions and comments from the audience.

It will be a lovely afternoon and wonderful opportunity to engage in a casual Q&A with the artists. Light refreshments will be available.

  • WHEN Saturday 4-6pm
  • WHERE The Zone Gallery, 89 McCarthy Rd, Maleny

My Field Notes

My previous blog post shared the pieces I created for this exhibition.

For the exhibition itself, I have on display some of the photos I have collected and referenced, as well as some of the paper plates used to create the artworks. I have also stuck some of the actual printing plates of the birds on the walls around the work.

Click here to check out my previous post where I share some of the behind-the-scenes about the process of creating them, and other items that form part of the field notes collection for this body of work.

Exhibition Review
