canopy – an Artist Book

There’s a moment when you stand inside the forest … and look up.
Not out.
Not ahead.
Up.
And everything shifts.
canopy began with that shift in perspective.
So much of how we move through the landscape is grounded – feet on the track, eyes scanning what’s in front of us. But the life of the forest doesn’t only live at ground level. It rises. It stretches.
This artist book is a quiet consideration of what lies overhead.
Branches reaching.
Leaves filtering light.
Spaces opening and closing as you move beneath them.
canopy
Sunlight pierces pinhole highlights
a million distant stars
The canopy spreads its shield
worlds gather out of sight
Between leaf and branch hidden forms
disappear into veiled depths
Beneath the ceiling of soil
roots and shawods cradle what lie beneath
canopy shares drone imagery gathered from above. From the ground, so much is hidden. The structure of the canopy. The way branches hold space for each other. The density, the gaps, the rhythm of growth.
From above, a different story reveals itself.
Patterns emerge.
Connections become visible.
The forest reads as a whole.
This book sits alongside my ongoing exploration of trees, place and ecological memory.
canopy invites you to slow down and look differently.
To notice the layers that exist beyond immediate view.
To consider what is held above you, quietly doing its work.
And to remember that the forest is not only something you walk through – it is something that surrounds you, entirely.
