Storytelling Through Artist Books at ‘Narratives’ Exhibition in Maleny

 In Artist Books, Exhibitions, Workshops

The ‘Narratives’ Artist Book exhibition will run from 4–20 October at The Little Red Cottage in Maleny, showcasing work by 15 book artists from the Sunshine Coast, Noosa, and Brisbane. Coinciding with the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Writers Festival, this exhibition focuses on storytelling through handmade artist books, offering a unique blend of visual art and narrative.

Artist books are different from traditional art forms, combining personal stories and hands-on interaction through book structures. Visitors can view and engage with these works during the exhibition.

This is a special opportunity to experience artist books up close, something that doesn’t often happen in the Sunshine Coast. Artist books allow for a deeply personal storytelling experience, one that invites viewers to turn pages and interact with the artwork in a way that is different from viewing paintings or sculptures.

More Bookmaking Workshops

For those wanting to explore bookmaking further, I also offer two 2-day handmade artist book workshops at my studio, providing in-depth instruction for beginners and experienced artists alike.

Simply Folded – Artist Books: more than just a concertina folded book! We investigate and make simple and complex book constructions, building up in complexity over the weekend.

Stitched – Artist Books: explore two binding techniques from the perspective of an artist. One simple, one a little more complex; both offering endless potential for creating and binding your own handmade artist books.
