BUYING GELLI PLATES

I buy my gel plates from different suppliers, depending on price and availability.

I buy at retail prices from these stores, where I have found the best pricing:

School art suppliers sell school kits with plates and brayers/rollers in sets of 10+. Check to see if the supplier you buy from has kits, or can arrange kit pricing.

DIY GEL PLATE RECIPE

You can find my gelatin plate recipe in my blog here. On that page I share care and troubleshooting tips.

You can download a pdf of the recipe here.

I love working with my hands and printing onto paper. Below are links to a series of articles talking about paper with a specific focus on printmaking paper:

IMAGE TRANSFER

Working with botanical materials is the primary focus of my practice. Image transfer, using laser printed and commercially printed papers is another fun way to work with the plates. It’s a way to print photographic and text-based images from the plate.

Below are a few link to artists who have shared their approach to using pre-printed material images to transfer to a gel plate.

Using inkjet prints for image transfer with the gel plates:

MOUNTING PAPER ARTWORKS TO PANELS/BOARDS

Below is a series of videos from my new online workshop that demonstrate how I go about mounting paper artworks to board. I like to do this with works on paper as an alternative to having to frame work behind glass.

The videos are from my online Gel Plate Monoprinting workshop.

This link will download a pdf with the full list of materials and overview of the steps I take to mount my papers to board.
