sky dancers – Libris Awards 2022 Finalist

In About My Work, Artist Books

Very excitement … my sky dancers artist book has been shortlisted in the 2022 Libris Awards.

And what an impressive shortlist it is. 58 finalists from around the country. I feel so honoured to be in the company of some exceptional book artists from around the country.

You may be noticing an increasing theme of artist books in my work. I love artist books – tactile, expressive, diverse and varied, intimate and unique. I have been making them since forever, but only in recent years created them with the confidence to share.

The opportunity to be included in such an impressive collection of book artists is an honour – and encouragement to keep exploring this deliciously exciting medium.

This little book is very special to me. It tells the story of an intimate encounter with a crackle of yellow-tailed black cockatoos at my parents home. Every element of the book – the colours, paper, images, structure – are considered and deliberate to tell the story.

I am also super-chuffed to be included in this year’s shortlist after the shortlisting of my PTSD … a love story artist book in 2020.

I had every intention of getting to the exhibition in 2020 – but that dreaded virus kicked off and travel was thwarted for a while. A long while.

Fingers and toes crossed that I will get up to the exhibition this year. The idea of seeing with my own eyes, and touching with clean hands, the books in the 2022 exhibition is intoxicating.

The exhibition launches with the Awards announcements on Saturday, 9 April 2022. It will run until Sunday, 19 June 2022.

If you’re able to, see if you can get to the show yourself to enjoy the work – Artspace Mackay, Civic Centre Precinct, Gordon Street, Mackay.
