About this exhibition
Roots grow from seed to create and sustain life. This exhibition celebrates our own interpretation of Roots, both geographically and personally. The tactile nature of timbers, the creative process beginning with the seed of an idea, printmaking origin in wood plates and the deeply rooted logging history of the area presented an exciting subject matter for each of us to explore and work with.
The Blackall Ranges were intensively forested by cedar and other valuable timbers, and the 1870s saw the start of timber-cutting and sawmilling as the principal industries of the area.
The Glass House Mountains and Sunshine Coast Hinterland is also home to one of the largest populations of artists anywhere in the country.
Some of us have deep family roots from this area, and others have been drawn to the beauty and peace the area offers. But all of us agree that the Glass House Mountains and Sunshine Coast Hinterland inspires our creative spirits in a deeply connected way.
