SKILL LEVEL
This workshop is suitable for people familiar with printing with gelatin plates. It is a continuation from my introductory Gelatin Plate Monoprinting online workshop.
’Lifetime Access’ means you have access to the workshop content for the lifetime of each workshop, with minimum guaranteed access for AT LEAST one year after you enrol. It’s ‘Lifetime Access’ as long as the course and the platform they are hosted on remain active. It costs a lot to maintain the online learning platform and infrastructure, so as long as interest is maintained, the platform will remain open. There is no short term intention to close anything, and access is guaranteed for at least 1 year after enrolment. I hope access will be open for 10+ years. All online content from other educators will be the same – lifetime can only be for as long as the course and it’s hosting platform can be maintained.
In this workshop I share my intentional printing approach with the ongoing focus of printing with botanicals. We look at composition principles and I demonstrate and expand on my own personal approach to this beautiful printing process.
This workshop builds on the foundation of the introductory Gelatin Plate Monoprinting online workshop.
Are you ready to take a more intentional approach to your gelatin plate monoprinting?

Q. I’m not in Australia. Can I still access the course?
A. Yes. The online workshop is available anywhere around the world with internet access. The cost is AUD$137. Your payment will be converted to your preferred currency.
Q. Do I need any special materials for this workshop?
A. Yes. At the very least you will need a gel plate, acrylic paint, a brayer (roller), paper and some leaves. Please refer back to the Materials tab on this page for more information about Materials.
Q. I’m really new to this. Do I need to have any prior printmaking experience?
A. It would be helpful, but not essential. I have made the assumption that people enrolling in this workshop will be familiar with gel plate prints and building layers on printed paper. If you have never used a gel plate before, I recommend first enrolling into my online Gelatin Plate Monoprinting workshop. You can even bundle it with this workshop.
Q. Does this process only work with paper, or can I also use it for textiles?
A. Yes! The process lends itself perfectly to printing on textiles, as much as paper. This workshop covers printing on paper, but you can apply the exact same approach to working with different textiles and textile paints. The results may be a little different, as the textile surface is a little different to paper, but the results are just as beautiful!
Q. Do you only work with plant materials?
A. Mostly, yes. I work almost exclusively with plant materials in my gel plate monoprinting. However, my approach can be adapted to use other items such as stencils, stamps, papers, textiles – anything that will create a texture on the gel plate, without damaging the plate.
Q. Is this a self-paced online workshop?
A. Yes. You can work through the lessons and modules as fast or as slow as you like.
Q. Do I have to work through the modules in order?
A. Initially, yes. The course has been designed such that each module, and each lesson in each module, builds upon the previous. You can easily skip a lesson by clicking the ‘Mark Complete’ button at the bottom of each lesson’s page. Once you have run through all lessons, you can jump between them at your own choosing.
Q. How long do I have access to the workshop?
A. Your access into this workshop is granted for the lifetime of the course.
Q. Is there an online community associated with this course?
A. Yes! There is a students-only Facebook group that you will be invited into. In there you can ask questions, share work, and share the joys of printmaking with other students. You don’t have to join the Facebook Group, but I hope you do 🙂
Q. Is it possible to have some one-on-one time with you?
A. Yes. I offer private tuition. You will find information about this inside the portal, or click here if you’re interested in private tuition but don’t want to enrol in this workshop.

I liked all of the [online workshop] demos and seeing the process used to arrive at a finished image. All directions and demos were clear verbally and visually. I really like the Facebook group. It gives a feeling of comradery, which I have fond memories of from art classes in college. Since we can't be together, it's the next best thing. Also, the images are inspirational. I really like the GUIDES you post about what you have done in your studio. These are motivating to continue experimenting.

-
I loved how professional and encouraging it was to experiment. The techniques were explained really well and all round beautifully laid out.
-
I liked your clear and detailed explanations of the process. It is clear that you are mindful of the details a beginner might not pick up unless the steps aren't broken down into small bites and reasons given for why you do things a certain way. Many people who produce instructional videos have voices that are difficult to listen to - yours is easy, conversational and sincere. Your passion for your work and sharing the process is evident in the workshop.
-
I really loved your presentation, the clarity in your instructions, your generosity in the giving of information. Each module was so beautifully presented, so easy to follow and therefore, fabulous results for me. Pure delight as I lifted off the paper. I look at leaves very differently. The entire workshop was wonderful, in construction, in the flow of one module to the next, and for the ability to return to any place for further viewing and be able to work with. I also love the colour workshop...after years of struggle with understanding color theory I found my way through each module and have a greater understanding. Bless you and grateful thanks.
-
Thank you Kim. I would thoroughly recommend the online gel plate monoprinting workshop. The modules are easy to navigate and all of Kim's instructions are clear, with lots of additional hints and tips. After watching the video of Kim's studio I can imagine walking in, looking at all the art work, the books on the shelves, listening to the birds and admiring the magnificent view. Pure escapism; and that's before the excitement of learning how to make your own beautiful, crisp, uncluttered prints! Truly wonderful.
