Stereum ostrea - Golden curtain crust fungi

Stereum ostrea
Golden curtain crust fungi

Small forms. Essential work.

These fungi grew across a fallen tree, forming layered fans marked with fine bands of colour and texture.

Their beauty first caught my attention.
Their colour and shape stood out against the surrounding vegetation. Their role in the forest
held my interest.

As they break down fallen timber, they help return nutrients to the soil, supporting other life. Looking closely revealed both the patterns within these small forms and their part in the forest’s ongoing renewal.
