Freycinetia excelsa
Narrow-leaved climbing pandan
Leaves seem to dance.
Rooted in the forest floor, this plant climbs through the surrounding vegetation. I was drawn to its long, thin leaves, which extend from their stems with a lightness that gives them a dancing presence.
Here, the leaves meet sensitised paper directly, leaving traces shaped by sunlight, moisture and chemistry. A botanical monotype of bracken sits beneath the cyanotype.
The print holds their forms still, yet retains something of the sense of movement that first caught my attention. Their reach gives the image its own rhythm.
