What stories grow at her feet?
I kept returning to one particular blue quandong.
Standing beneath her canopy, I was entranced by the loud hum of bees. I paused to take in her size. Her trunk. The size and reach of her branches. Around her, new life was taking root. Her legacy growing at her feet.
The poem grew from those visits, bringing together her presence, the history of the land around her and the cycles of growth returning to the forest floor.
Across seven unbound sheets, photographs, letterpress words and blind embossing offer different ways to spend time with this tree. The separate pages allow pauses between image and verse, echoing the repeated visits through which I came to know her.
Her stories continue in what falls, what feeds other life and what takes root beneath her canopy.
