When was the last time you received something in the post that wasn’t a bill or junk mail? I’m on a quest to stimulate some heartfelt snail-mail messages …
This workshop is a variation to my Gelatin Plate Monoprinting workshop … printing with gelatin plates is fun, easy and contagious! You will learn how to take a spontaneous approach to this printing method using found and organic shapes and objects. With this process there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to print, and there are no ‘mistakes’ .. it is playful and creative.
You will learn the basics of this fun printing process with paper, then printing your own pack of 12 blank postcards. We will also use our gel plates to monoprint a handmade wrapper/enclosure to house your postcards; taking home a template to reference to make more at home. Keep the postcards for yourself, or send them to friends and loved ones for that special snail-mail surprise.
This workshop is also an extension of my Note to Self hand-printed postcard series. You will be able to have a go hand-printing some Note to Self sentiments using an Adana 8×5 letterpress print machine with lead type.
This workshop is suitable for beginners to intermediate, all ages over 16.

If you have never done any form of printmaking before, or think you don’t have a creative bone in your body, then this is a fun and easy way to loosen up and to re-connect with your creative side. By the time you finish this workshop you will be equipped with the skills to confidently print your own monotype designs on paper and fabric.
You will leave this workshop with a series of prints on A4 papers and your pack of 12 postcards. During our workshop you will make a purpose-printed enclosure to hold your postcards. You will take home a template for this enclosure so you can make more at home.
In addition, you will be able to take these skills home and confidently print at home.
You will be given handouts with material recommendations if you want to continue this practice at home, including recipes to make your own gelatin plates and where you can buy long-lasting ready-to-use gelatin plates.
All necessary materials for this workshop are covered in your Materials Fee.
– gelatin plate and A4 papers for printing
– 12 postcards to print. Each postcard as had a Postcard motif letterpress hand-printed on the back
– special papers for printing the postcard wrappers/enclosure and template to follow
– plant materials and objects to create your printed designs
– paints, rollers and other printmaking supplies needed to prepare and print your prints
– tea and coffee, with a light morning and afternoon tea
Everything you need for this workshop is included and provided.
Lunch. You can pop into town to buy lunch, but it is a few minutes drive and parking can be difficult (Maleny is a popular weekend destination). Therefore I recommend you bring your lunch and maximise the time you have printing and learning in the studio.
Bring a journal or notebook for taking notes during the workshop.
Participants are advised to wear closed in shoes, and suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting paint on. The paints can set permanently on fabric.
In this workshop we will print with water based acrylic paints, so wash up will use soap and water.

Full payment is required to secure your booking. Payment can be made via PayPal or direct deposit.
If you cancel your workshop booking you may incur fees. Please read my cancellation policy here.
If a workshop does not reach the minimum numbers required, it may have to be cancelled. If this happens you will receive a full refund or an option to reschedule.
Once your booking form and payment has been received I will contact you to confirm you place and advise any special instructions.
Workshops and Students’ work
Below are photos from recent Print a Pack of Postcard gel plate printing workshops. We printed a pack of postcards using gel plates and had a go letterpress printing, printing some Note to Self sentiments on some cards…
You can also sign up to my mailing list to be kept up to date about upcoming workshops dates and opportunities, plus tips, hints and ideas for your own printmaking practice. I will also include information about other local artist workshops in the Maleny Sunshine Coast Hinterland area.

I'd recommend Kim's workshops to anyone interested in trying something new, or building on existing skills, in a supportive, friendly environment. Kim focuses on enjoying the process rather than aiming for perfection. She also provides excellent catering!
Kim is not only a wonderful printmaker, but she is an excellent teacher as well. She is generous with her knowledge and experience as well as her resources. I just loved my workshop with Gelli printing and am looking forward to the cyanotype coming up. I sincerely recommend Kim as a tutor and a lovely generous person.
Kim is an excellent teacher and she shared her passion for Gelatin Plate Printing in a relaxed and friendly workshop.
I really enjoyed Kim’s introduction to gelli printing workshop. It was a fun morning with a focus on play. I loved how generous Kim is with her knowledge and enjoyed experimenting with something I’d never tried before. Kim is great at taking the anxiety out of trying something new . Kin’s love of print making is contagious. Only problem was, I didn’t want to go home.
Kim is an amazing tutor and is very generous with her knowledge.
