Get Ready for Your
Gelatin Plate Monoprinting Workshop

YOUR WORKSHOP DATE
Tuesday 7 May

TIME – 9:45am for a 10am start
Finishing around 4pm

LOCATION
This workshop is held my own private studio at:
10 Nadi Lane, North Maleny
5 minutes drive from the Maleny township. Scroll down the page to see the Google map.

PARKING
There is parking in the carport (in front of the studio) and for 3-4 cars in the parking bay next to the driveway. If you are first in, please park snugly into the front of the parking bay (closest to the road). It will be easier for you to pull in there than for the 3rd or 4th car to pull in there. If the carport and parking bays are full you can park in the driveway – we’ll just park each other in. There is street parking on the grass at the street.

ON ARRIVAL
Once parked, head through the carport and in to the studio. I’ll be in there pottering around getting ready for our workshop.

Please take a moment to read through the information on this page. It contains important information about your upcoming workshop.

If, after reading the information below, you still have questions before our time together, please call 0413 384 426 or email me.

GET READY…

Get ready for a day of fun and play, where there are no mistakes, no ‘wrong way’ or ‘right way’ and experimentation is the order of the day.

Printing with gelatin plates is fun, easy and spontaneous! We will play with found and organic shapes and objects to produce a series of one-off ‘monotype’ prints.

You will leave the workshop with a series of monotype prints and a new set of creative skills that you can continue with at home.

We will be working with commercially purchased gel plates, but we’ll discuss how you can make your own gelatin plate, leaving the workshop with a recipe to make your own at home.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

All materials you need for this workshop are included in the Materials Fee you paid when you booked your workshop.

Your Materials Fee covers the use of gelatin plates, rollers, papers, paints, other creative resources, reference materials, material sourcing, and studio equipment for this workshop. We will be using artist quality paints and quality printmaking papers, along with other creative resources in the workshop. Click here if you would like to read more about your Materials Fee.

You will leave this workshop with a collection of unique monoprints, a gel plate DIY recipe and new learnings to continue gelatin plate printing at home.

WHAT TO BRING

We will be printing with a range of leaves and plant material, as well as some other mark-making materials. If there are leaf and plant shapes in your garden that you want to experiment with, please bring them along. Weeds and soft leaves work best, but hard leaves can give interesting results. Just not sharp, spiky or thorny material as they may damage the plate. If you’re unsure, bring them along and we can discuss on the day.

There will already be a large variety of plant (and other) material to work with throughout the day.

A SENSE OF FUN & PLAY – this is a fun process to work with. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, and experimentation and play are the orders of the day.

CLOTHING – please wear closed, comfortable shoes and comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. Bring a studio apron if you have one.

Please also bring a pen and journal or notebook for taking notes during the workshop.

And you are welcome to take photos of the process throughout the day.

LUNCH & SNACKS

A light morning and afternoon tea (gluten free) is provided during this workshop. As is tea and coffee throughout the day.

Please bring your own lunch. You can drive into town to buy something during our lunch break, but parking can be difficult on weekends. There are places to buy lunch in town on your way in to the workshop.

The studio has a fridge, microwave and cutlery.

ARRIVE TIME

Please aim for a 9:45am arrival so we can kick off at 10am sharp. You will be able to make a cuppa and get settled in for your day.

If you’re running late, please don’t stress or rush to make up time. Drive safe! If you can, give me a call on 0413 384 426 to let me know, and I’ll be able to catch you up on anything you may have missed.

The studio is open from 9:30am each workshop morning. You are more than welcome to arrive earlier than 9:45, but please no earlier than 9:30am. If you do arrive before 9:45am, you can make yourself a cuppa and sit and read something from the bookshelf while I finish getting ready for our workshop.

A peek at past workshop photos

I’ve added some photos from past workshops to give you sneaky peek at what to expect on the day. Essentially – a day of fun, let go of the attachment to the outcome, and simply enjoy discovering a new creative process.
