Platycerium superbum, pup
Staghorn fern
Life starts small.
It is easy to be awe-struck by the scale, shape and colour of a mature staghorn, but the tiny pup emerging from the host tree carries its own quiet presence.
This work focuses on that early moment of growth. The fine veins and developing structure hold the promise of what the plant may become.
Throughout this project I became increasingly aware of how often new life appears beside, beneath or upon older life.
The pup became a small expression of resilience, continuity and potential: a reminder that the forest
is always growing, changing and renewing itself.
