Benthamina alyxifolia
Mistletoe
A palm’s future travels on wings.
A fig holds its flowers inside an enclosed structure. A tiny pollinating wasp enters through the ostiole, a small opening into this hidden chamber.
The fig tree shape is lasercut from a wet cyanotype made with sandpaper fig. Behind it, embossed leaves and the ostiole draw attention to this easily overlooked entrance.
The fig shelters the wasp’s developing young, while the wasp carries pollen between figs. The resulting fruit feeds animals that carry seeds onward.
