GET READY…
I’m so excited to be hosting this Drawing workshop with David Bongiorno.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, this workshop will equip you with core techniques to draw anything – from everyday objects to imagined scenes.
Through structured lessons and hands-on practice, this workshop will help beginner to intermediate artists build a strong foundation in drawing – learning to see like an artist, simplify complex forms, and gain confidence with shading and perspective.
WHAT TO BRING
Please bring the following materials with you to the workshop. Most items are readily available from local art supply stores.
A limited supply of materials will also be available at the studio if you’re unable to source them in time:
- Pencils – HB and 2B
- Woodless graphite pencil – 6B
- Eraser – kneadable
- Ruler – 30cm
- Drawing paper or sketchpad – A4 and A3
- Blending stumps – tissues are a good substitute
- Willow charcoal – 2 sticks
- Compressed charcoal – ES (extra soft)
- A2 pad of newsprint
- Still life objects – two or three simple objects 20cm or smaller, simple shapes/forms and not too decorated
- Images of a scene you may wish to draw – refer below*
*Please bring one or two reference images of a building or street scene – a printout around A4 in size, or from a book of similar dimensions. There are no restrictions on the complexity of the scene, as we’ll be learning how to simplify and prioritise visual information. Black and white images are ok to reference, if you prefer. You’re also welcome to bring a tablet (like an iPad) to work from digital images.
WHAT’S INCLUDED
This workshop is structured so that students bring their own drawing materials, as listed above. However, if you have difficulty sourcing materials, limited supplies of the following will be available for use at the studio:
- Newsprint sheets
- Drawing charcoal
- Drawing pencils
- Woodless pencils
- Blending stumps
- Still life objects
- Image reference
LUNCH & SNACKS
Morning and afternoon tea: A light morning and afternoon tea (gluten-free) is provided during this workshop. As is tea and coffee throughout the day.
Lunch: Please bring your own. You can also pop into town to grab something, though parking can be difficult on weekends. There’s a fridge, microwave, and cutlery in the studio if you need them.
