When was the last time you did something “just for you!”?
If you want to (re-)connect with your creative side, think you don’t have a creative bone in your body, or just want to enjoy some time-out and away from your daily life … I invite you to join this workshop and enjoy a fun and easy way to loosen up and to re-connect with your creative side.
This workshop was inspired by my Note to Self hand-printed postcard series and is a variation to my Gelatin Plate Monoprinting workshop. Printing with gelatin plates is fun, easy and contagious! With this process there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to print, and there are no ‘mistakes’ .. it is playful and creative.
You will learn the basics of this fun printing process with paper, then print your own pack of 12 postcards; leaving with new skills and your own very special “Note to Self” postcard set.
This workshop is suitable for beginners to intermediate, all ages over 16.

If you have never done any form of printmaking before, or think you don’t have a creative bone in your body, this is a fun and easy way to loosen up and to re-connect with your creative side. By the time you finish this workshop you will be equipped with the skills to continue to print your own monotype designs on paper and fabric.
I will teach you my own approach to gelatin plate monoprinting. And I will have a selection of prepared sentiments ready to letterpress print yourself on a Adana 8″ x 5″ press. Print some or all sentiments over your gel plate monoprinted postcards, or leave your cards with only your gel plate monoprints and add your own text or images or other embellishments.
You will leave this workshop with a series of prints on A4 papers and your pack of 12 postcards. During our workshop you will also make a purpose-printed paper enclosure to hold your postcards. You will take home a template for this enclosure so you can make more at home.
You will be given handouts with material recommendations if you want to continue this practice at home, including recipes to make your own gelatin plates and where you can buy long-lasting ready-to-use gelatin plates.
Please note: you will have the opportunity to letterpress print ‘Note to Self’ sentiments on your cards, but this workshop does not teach you about the letterpress process. The letterpress type and equipment will already be set up, ready for you to print.
All necessary materials for this workshop are covered in your Materials Fee.
– gelatin plate and A4 papers for printing
– 12 postcards to print. Each postcard has a Postcard motif letterpress hand-printed on the back
– papers for printing the postcard wrappers/enclosure and take-home template to follow
– plant materials and objects to create your printed designs
– paints, rollers and other printmaking supplies needed to prepare and print your prints
– prepared letterpress type lockups ready to letterpress print on an letterpress printer
– tea and coffee, with a light morning and afternoon tea
Everything you need for this workshop is included and provided.
Lunch. You can pop into town to buy lunch, but it is a few minutes drive and parking can be difficult (Maleny is a popular weekend destination). Therefore I recommend you bring your lunch and maximise the time you have printing and learning in the studio.
Bring a journal or notebook for taking notes during the workshop.
Participants are advised to wear closed in shoes, and suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting paint on. The paints can set permanently on fabric.
In this workshop we will print with water based acrylic paints, so wash up will use soap and water.
To book your place in this workshop, please complete the booking form to the right.
Full payment is required to secure your booking. Payment can be made via PayPal or direct deposit.
If you cancel your workshop booking you may incur fees. Please read my cancellation policy here.
If a workshop does not reach the minimum numbers required, it may have to be cancelled. If this happens you will receive a full refund or an option to reschedule.
Once your booking form and payment has been received I will contact you to confirm you place and advise any special instructions.

Just walking into the studio gave me a thrill - inspiration in every nook and cranny. Kim has an absolute eye for detail and covered everything we needed for a successful day - an abundance of papers, the best paints, a huge array of materials for print making, and this time the glory of an authentic hand printing press which put the icing on the cake. Every participant left with a smile and a collection of hand made postcards in a beautiful handmade package. Kim is a natural teacher who encourages every student to celebrate their skills.

Kim is the most organised and generous teacher I've ever met. She is patient and kind and knows how to help those of us lacking in confidence. She explains every step thoroughly and ensures everyone understands before moving on. She is generous with her materials and knowledge and has a way of making you feel relaxed, even if you think you don't know what you're doing. Her classes are light and joyful and I left feeling inspired and with a beautiful collection of postcards that I'm really proud of.

Another memorable learning experience being part of the first group to complete the ‘Notes to Self’ workshop in Kim’s beautiful studio. I found it a very different experience gelli printing onto postcards and the icing on the cake was to print beautiful quotes onto the cards using Kim’s lovely old letterpress. We then printed onto board to create a beautiful little enclosure to keep them in. Kim is an incredible artist and teacher and so very generous in sharing her love of printmaking with her students. She is so creatively inspiring and I value the new skills she has shared with me. I can’t imagine anyone not enjoying every minute of Kim Herringe workshop. Thanks Kim. Can’t wait until the next one!

Reignited a passion for mono - printing. Was a simple elegant and spiritual opportunity to creatively express emotion and feeling in a visual way. Thank you Kim as always for sharing this aspect of you art and life journey for the enrichment of others.

I'd recommend Kim's workshops to anyone interested in trying something new, or building on existing skills, in a supportive, friendly environment. Kim focuses on enjoying the process rather than aiming for perfection. She also provides excellent catering!
-
Kim is not only a wonderful printmaker, but she is an excellent teacher as well. She is generous with her knowledge and experience as well as her resources. I just loved my workshop with Gelli printing and am looking forward to the cyanotype coming up. I sincerely recommend Kim as a tutor and a lovely generous person.

I really enjoyed Kim’s introduction to gelli printing workshop. It was a fun morning with a focus on play. I loved how generous Kim is with her knowledge and enjoyed experimenting with something I’d never tried before. Kim is great at taking the anxiety out of trying something new . Kin’s love of print making is contagious. Only problem was, I didn’t want to go home.
