Printing with gelatin plates is fun, easy and contagious! In this one day workshop you will play with found and organic shapes and objects to produce a series of one-off prints (called monotype). You will learn how to take both a planned and sponantious approach to this printing method. You will also learn how you can apply this printmaking technique to other surfaces such as fabrics, and how you can continue at home with minimal investment in materials.
More dates announced throughout the year. More about dates below.
Suitable for beginners to intermediate, all ages over 16.
If you have never done any form of printmaking before, or think you don’t have a creative bone in your body, then this is a fun and easy way to loosen up and to re-connect with your creative side. By the time you finish this workshop you will be equipped with the skills to confidently print your own monotype designs on paper and fabric.
You will be able to take these skills home and confidently print at home.
You will be given handouts with material recommendations if you want to continue this practice at home, including recipes to make your own gelatin plates and where you can buy long-lasting ready-to-use gelatin plates.
All necessary materials for this workshop are covered in your Materials Fee.
– gelatin plate and paper for printing
– paints, stencils and objects to create your printed designs
– paints, rollers and other printmaking supplies needed to prepare and print your prints
– tea and plunger coffee, with a light morning and afternoon tea
Everything you need for this workshop is included and provided.
Lunch. You can pop into town to buy lunch, but it is a few minutes drive and parking can be difficult (Maleny is a popular weekend destination). Therefore I recommend you bring your lunch and maximise the time you have printing and learning in the studio.

Participants are advised to wear closed in shoes, and suitable clothing or apron that you do not mind getting paint on. The paints can set permanently on fabric.
In this workshop we will print with water based acrylic paints, so wash up will use soap and water.

Gelatin plates are effectively a print plate made from gelatin – thick and soft, able to be handled, and perfect for transferring colourful designs to a whole range of surface.
I will provide you with tested recipes so you can make your own gelatin plates at home. In this workshop we will use commercially produced Gelli® Plates. They are long lasting and handle the demands of workshop usage. The Gelli® Plates come in a range osfshapes and size and I will provide information about various place in Australia and the US where you can purchase and order these.
Below are some videos showing just a few ways you can use and print with this printmaking method.
